SLD Assessments

Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person acquires and uses academic skills such as reading, writing, or mathematics. It is not related to intelligence — many individuals with SLD are bright and capable — but they process information differently, which can make learning more challenging without the right strategies and support.

At AIM Psychology Group, we provide comprehensive and compassionate assessments for children and adults experiencing learning difficulties. Our goal is to clearly identify areas of strength and difficulty, helping guide practical recommendations for learning support, interventions, and adjustments at school, university, or in the workplace.

Child SLD Assessments

Early identification of a learning disorder allows children to access tailored support during crucial stages of their education. At AIM Psychology Group, we conduct child SLD assessments in a warm, engaging environment designed to help your child feel relaxed and confident.
This enables us to accurately evaluate their cognitive abilities, academic performance, and learning profile to determine whether an SLD — such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia — is present.

Our assessments aim to empower families and educators with actionable insights and recommendations that support your child’s long-term learning success.

You may wish to consider a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) assessment if your child shows signs such as:

  • Reading and Writing: Difficulty recognising words, slow or inaccurate reading, trouble with spelling, or avoiding reading and writing tasks.
  • Mathematics: Challenges understanding number concepts, remembering formulas, or applying mathematical reasoning.
  • Attention and Processing: Struggling to follow instructions, stay focused on tasks, or process information efficiently compared to peers.

If your child is under 25 and you’re planning to claim a Medicare rebate, a referral from a GP or paediatrician may be required. However, assessments can also be completed privately without a referral.

Adult SLD Assessments

Learning difficulties can persist into adulthood, and many individuals only discover their Specific Learning Disorder later in life. Receiving a diagnosis can bring valuable insight, self-understanding, and access to strategies that make education, work, and daily life more manageable.

At AIM Psychology Group, we offer professional and supportive SLD assessments for adults. You may wish to seek an assessment if you experience:

  • Reading and Writing: Ongoing challenges with reading comprehension, spelling, or written expression.
  • Mathematics: Difficulty working with numbers, completing calculations, or applying mathematical reasoning.
  • Organisation and Focus: Problems with planning, time management, or concentrating for extended periods.
  • Academic or Workplace Performance: Feeling capable but consistently underperforming in tasks involving reading, writing, or numeracy.
  • Our assessments aim to do more than provide a diagnosis — they offer clear guidance on practical steps, workplace accommodations, and evidence-based learning strategies that can support long-term success.

At AIM Psychology Group, we believe every person deserves to learn and work with confidence. Our SLD assessments are designed to provide clarity, self-awareness, and a tailored pathway to support growth and achievement.
